Job Title: Paraprofessional/Teaching Assistant - Special Education         

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Reports to: Principal, SpEd Coordinator, & Teacher(s) Assigned   Working Days: 188 days

Primary Purpose:

Provide specialized instruction under the direction of Special Education Teachers to Pre-K4-12th grade students for all core subjects.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED with
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide (Paraprofessional) Certificate or 
  • A College Degree may be substituted for a Texas Educational Aide (Paraprofessional) Certificate
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children and/or teenagers
  • Ability to communicate effectively, be flexible, and punctual, and work within a team
  • Ability to use Computers, Google suite of products including Google Sheets, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Zoom, Copier, & Audio Visual Equipment

 

Experience:

  • Some experience working with children and/or teenagers

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  • Provide specialized instruction under the direction of Special Education Teachers to assigned students for all core subjects.
  • Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Under the direction of Special Education Teachers, the Teacher Assistant must keep accurate administrative records to include service times, goal progress, and student attendance.
  • Substitute for the regular teacher on an as-needed basis.

 

Student Management

  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the Special Education or General Education teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep the student's General Ed and Special Ed teachers informed of the special needs or problems of individual students.

 

Other

  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Monday-Thursday 7:15 am - 4:00 pm
  • Friday 7:30 am - 12:30 pm
