Cedars Next Generation High School is a Project Based Learning Public Charter School and the open ELAR position is a team teaching position with the Social Studies teacher to create interdisciplinary PBL Projects. The English position will teach Freshman/9th grade English, an EOC Tested subject integrated with a team-taught World Geography teacher, and Jr./11th grade English integrated with a team-taught US History and EOC Tested subject teacher. The Team teachers (ELA and Soc. Studies) collaborate together taking the State Standards in both subjects to create an authentically designed and engaging PBL project. The teachers share a classroom and students during the day. Primary Purpose: Provide students with an innovative learning environment that challenges them with rigorous, authentic, and engaging learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth through Project-Based Learning (PBL) in a 100% PBL School. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Master’s degree from an accredited university preferred Valid Texas Teaching Certificate - ELAR 8-12 Special Knowledge/Skills: Willingness to team teaching in an integrated class of ELA and Social Studies Knowledge of secondary ELAR courses General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Experience in preparing and administering State of Texas End Of Course Exams for ELA I and ELA II Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong collaboration, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IS PREFERRED OR A DESIRE TO IMPLEMENT Teaching ELA courses and EOC Essential Job Functions: Develop and implement PBL projects that fulfill the requirements of the school’s PBL curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare projects that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Willingness to travel by air. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of Project-Based Learning and the needs of students assigned. Conduct assessment of student learning and use results to plan instructional activities. Modify instruction as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Collaborate with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students, and support the mission of the school. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
